Peter here, a veteran of the British Army having served with the Royal Engineers and AGC over a 23-year career.
I have an interest in the military, history and support military charities. My interest in music and radio has always been there although in the background, until Dusty and I formed our radio station, Veteran Sounds Radio UK.
I now produce a lot for the station and keep on top of the advertising, promotion and marketing VSR. As well as that, I produce and present two shows, the Classic Show and Rock and Blues, in addition to a number of special shows.
This is Alex Glass, producer and guest presenter of
The Solid Gold Show.
Born in 1959 I grew up through the early days of pop music, enjoying everything from 1960 through to 1980. I also like a lot of new and old music with a heavy influence from my Dad, who loved Glen Miller and lots of others. He served in Burma during World War II.
A big fan of the Beatles, in the early 1980s, together with my brother and best friend, we formed a band. Although we didn’t manage to be very successful we did play a few venues across Glasgow.
Prior to forming our band I spent seven years in the Life Boys and Boys Brigade. I finished as a Staff Sergeant and attained the President’s Badge. I should have completed the Queen’s Badge but decided to concentrate on practicing the drums in the band.
Prior to retirement I had a number of jobs including British Steel, working on a farm and later in a childcare role. I was a Councillor on Glasgow City Council from 1999 until 2012, during which time I worked as a Caseworker for a Glasgow Member of the Scottish Parliament. In 2024 I completed my working life having spent eleven years with Wheatley Housing Association.
In my opinion, I grew up through the best period in popular music. My favourite decade is the 70s, although my two favourite years are 1967 and 1977.
Solid Gold is my selection of the best songs across all decades from the 1950s through to 2020s.
Although I am not directly involved with the Armed Forces, for the last twelve years I have worked in support of our local War Memorial to ensure the sacrifice made by service personnel is never forgotten.
I am Bob from Driving Anthems with Bob A Baker.
Born in 1955 in Preston Lancashire, I left school at 15 with a spirit level and worked on the farm. At 19, I changed tracks and in my case, trucks, when I became a professional driver which took me all over Europe and the Middle East.
Now, semi retired with my own business, Motorsport Trucking, for different teams including F1 GT Cup World Rally, also driving motorhomes around Europe, including my own.
In had always had an interest in music and during 2020 and the Covid lockdown, I built my own radio studio at home. I had been a Mobile DJ at 17 years old, playing local clubs and special venues.
All the time I have been trucking, I have had music on from Country to Rock Music, and always wanted to be on the radio. Now my four different shows are broadcast to about 25 radio stations around the world, including Veteran Sounds Radio. Despite having over 400 shows recorded I am still recording.

Jeff here.
I started taking a real interest in music from an early age and became interested in DJ work when my brother teamed up with a friend and used to do the clubs and pubs in the mid-70s.
I developed a love of independent music in the 80s initially. By then he was fed up with listening to the same top 10 songs played ad nauseum and started looking at alternatives.
I always believed there is a significant number of like-minded listeners who want something different. Hence my A&R Show. Album tracks and rarities, the kind of thing you won't normally hear on mainstream radio.
Having been an avid listener to an online station for a
few years, I approached the owner about doing a one-off special. It was well-received, and as a result I was offered a weekly slot. The rest as they say is history. I now presents for a number stations in the UK, America and Europe, including Veteran Sounds Radio UK.
I really enjoy preparing and recording my shows, as it really gets me thinking about what to play, and when.
And when not in my recording studio, I enjoy the theatre, both on, and back-stage, and seeing local bands play.
